Through our efforts together...

The Micah Ministry initially partnered with Lisa McGeary until she was taken home to Heaven on Christmas day, 2020. We have also partnered with the UCF Safe Haven Children’s home that cares for 40 of these deaf and at risk children at their facility outside Lusaka, Zambia. By showing God’s love and grace to children in Zambia living with special needs, they will have an opportunity to see God’s love and mercy in action. Below are some of the priorities for the funds we receive.

The goal of Micah Ministry is to work with the UCF Children’s home and assist them in becoming self sufficient. By assisting them in developing their garden and farm they are able to produce more funds to assist in covering their general expenses. While this will take time, it is our goal.

Food & Clean Water

The UCF Safe Haven Children’s home does not receive any Zambian government aid. The food purchased for the children is only from funds donated. Sara & Roy, the founders of Safe Haven are very efficient at stretching a dollar. Currently the cost to feed a child for a month is about $30 USD. They maintain a large garden, as well as many chickens and ducks to help keep the costs low. Unfortunately at only $30 per month per child they have little milk and few extras. Clean water is a constant struggle as the nearby bore hole pump is in need of repair and the plumbing is not adequate.

Medical Care

All the children under the care of the UCF Safe Haven children’s have access to government medical care but there are “out-of-pocket” costs for medicine and treatments. This can be as much as $100 USD per illness. We are working with Safe Haven to establish a financial reserve that they can use when a child gets hurt or contracts malaria.

School Tuition & Supplies

The cost of tuition in the local school is about $40 per child per month for ages 6 to 14 and about $100 per child for ages 14 to 18. Currently about 25 of the 40 children at Safe Haven are enrolled in school. The total cost of all tuition is about $1500 per month.

Housing & Clothing

While the UCF Safe Haven Children’s facility has a nice 4 bedroom house with an additional small building for the teenage boys, the facility is very crowded. The government has told them that they must provide a private bed for each child, Currently 3-4 children share a bed. We are working with them to determine the cost to have additional bunk beds build for the children. Clothing is an constant struggle as children grow and cloths wear out.

God’s Compassion and Love

While we are constantly working with the UCF Safe Haven Children’s home to meet their physical needs and to demonstrate God’s love and compassion to the children. Many of these children come from broken homes or were discarded by their mother. Please help us in supporting the UCF Children’s Home in Kabwe, Zambia.
