Your Gifts and Prayers are needed....
While 2025 has been a difficult year for many here in America it has also been a difficult year for the UCF Children’s Home (Safe Haven) and the children in Zambia. Their donations have dropped significantly and they need assistance not only for monthly expenses but for some much needed repairs. During 2025 UCF Childrens Home has worked hard at increasing the production of their 20 acre farm. They now have a chicken house, a pig house and an area to store grain.
The board of Micah Ministry asked Sara to identify the most critical needs facing the UCF Children’s Home. I have compiled the following list and am asking individual that have been blessed this year to consider selecting a project below and funding it. I know many are still struggling to feed their family and pay their rent but I believe some may be able to step up and be the difference. Please prayerfully look at the following needs and if you can, contact me to donate and make a difference (Doug@MicahMinistry.org).
Current Needs ( see details below)
- Monthly Food & Healthcare: the need bill is $2,000; a gift of $12,000 would buy food & medical care for 50 children for the next 6 months.
- Garden Irrigation: it will take about $1,500 to fence and irrigate the garden.
- Additional Housing Space: we need is for $9,000 to add two additional bedrooms to the current facility.
- Used Hilux for transportation: we need about $28,000 for a used vehicle and another $6,000 for sales tax (rate is 16%) and insurance. The 60 children either walk to school or wait their turn on the single vehicle owned by UCF.
- New Stove and Refrigerator: the need is for $2,265.
If God has blessed you this year and you can afford to help us meet one of these needs, please read below to see how you gift will be used and how you can bless those in need. Thank you for your generosity.
Monthly Food & Healthcare Needs: $2,000 per month
The UCF Children’s home cares for and feeds between 40 and 50 children each day depending on who is in school. While they try to grow as many food items as possible they still need to purchase food from the local market. Additionally, with that many children there is almost always someone that needs to visit the doctor each month. You recurring monthly gift of any amount would go a long way to helping offset the cost of food and health care each month.

Irrigation for the Garden: $1,500 (one time gift)
The UCF Children’s Home owns about 10 acres of property. They want to grow as much food as possible to help lower the cost of feeding the 50 children. They have cleared about half an acre to support a very large garden. The current problem is that the children have to carry water in buckets every day to water this garden. This is a lot of extra work and it is difficult to water the entire garden during the dry season. They have a water tank and pump on the grounds of the Children’s home. We are wanting someone to donate $1,500 to purchase PVC pipes that whey will run from the water supply to the garden and to improve the perimeter fence to keep out the animals. This will allow them to simply turn on the flow and water the garden when needed. Help us, help them get the maximum yield out of their garden.
Additional Housing Space: $9,000 (one time gift)
The UCF Children’s home currently houses between 30 and 50 children depending on the school year and which students are at a local boarding school. The Entire Children’s home is about 2,000 square feet in size. As you can see from the pictures below, this is not a very big house and is crowded with many children per room. They have taken in so many because the children were homeless, on the streets and often abused. We are in desperate need of some additional bedroom space. We have determined that to add additional bedrooms to the facility could be accomplished for about $9,000. This is an immediate that has been ordered by the local child welfare agency. They are working with us but we need would like to make this expansion happen in 2021. Any gift will help move us closer to breaking ground.
Used Hilux for Reliable Vehicle: $36,000 (one time gift)
UCF only has one vehicle to use for all transportation and operation. Micah Ministry would like to partner with someone to purchase a good used Hilux. The vehicle on the left below is the original Hilux before it broke down; the one on the right is a 2015 that we want to purchase for him. Please contact us for more information.

The appliances in the Children’s home are quite old and very inefficient. They would like to replace the old gas oven as well as one of the refrigerators. The current refrigerator is small and has limited space for storing perishable foods. There are several reputable appliance stores in Lusaka and the cost to replace both appliances would be about $1,175 for the gas oven and another $1,090 for the refrigerator. If you can help with either or both of these appliance purchases please contact us or make a tax free gift online.
The printer UCF Children’s home is very old and no longer prints anything legible. Printers are not as cheap in Africa as they are in the USA. They do not have Amazon Prime. A basic ink-jet printer will cost about $240. If you are willing to purchase this for the Children’s Home please contact Micah Ministry or mention it in the comments section with your online donation.
